Where We're Going

April 29, 2008 07:31 by Andrew Male

Now that we have the new site up, some of you may be wondering what we're planning.  Well the first thing we should mention, is that this is not how our site is going to look/run for very long.  We are developing some new blogging software just for STH that will allow us to offer free blogs to technical experts from around the world.  The system could take us a little while to complete, so until then, we'll do our best to keep things rolling right here and on the forums.  When we get closer to being able to release the software, we'll probably ask a few of you to beta test it for us, so make sure you're active on the forums.

SuperTechHelp.com will be a place for exactly that, super technological help.  I know I'm looking forward to this, I hope you all are too!

Sounds interesting Andy as long as your not doing something similar to IP.Blog. In my opinion Invision makes the best forum software by far. However I have to wonder if they have any concept at all of what a blog is.

IP.Blog will never be a big hit until it can be used as stand alone blog software that is not tied to a forum. You can find forum people who will blog, but there are few bloggers that have any interest in a forum.

I still blog, and have been blogging for years. A long time before I got interested in forums. There are many more blogs than forums in my bookmarks that I read daily. If in comments I want to draw attention to a post on my forum, I cross post it to my blog first. It's probably silly but many bloggers won't visit a forum becoming quite indignant if you link to one.

Another do-not-do is make blogging software with BBCode. Almost all bloggers prefer html. Forcing them to use BBCode will cause mean loosing a lot of customers. BBCode belongs in forums. Veteran bloggers will walk away from it.

If, after my rant, you need beta testers I would be happy to be on the list.

Sounds great Sandi! Thanks for the tips too! We're going to build it custom, I had no intention of integrating it with the forum except to maybe tie in the usernames and passwords.

I'll let you know when we need testers too!
